Originally from Hungary but now living in Kent, Judit first sat at the potter’s wheel when she was 18 years old and fell in love with the process but at that time it wasn’t possible for her to train as a potter. She later studied landscape architecture and then became a full-time mum but finally found her way back to clay in 2013, when starting an evening course and then progressing on to study for higher level qualifications at Kensington and Chelsea College. She launched her first tableware collection and business in 2016 and currently teaches workshops and qualification courses at Westminster Adult Education Service. Judit creates wheel-thrown and press-moulded tableware from stoneware clays. Her pots are functional and simple, meant to be used every day: eating, drinking and sharing those moments. The decorative techniques used involve carving through or scraping back, with sgraffito and inlay being favourites, hiding away first and then slowly and meticulously revealing the pattern beneath. Inspiration comes from various sources: including the heritage of Judit’s motherland, Hungary, and its traditional folk pottery.
