Support the refurbishment of Baysgarth House

In October 2024 The Ropewalk charity signed a 15-year lease with North Lincolnshire Council for Baysgarth House with the intention of renovating and reimagining the use of the house. Initial capital of £850k has been raised through significant grants from Community Ownership Fund, UK Shared Prosperity Fund and North Lincolnshire Council. This sounds like a lot of money but there is a lot of expensive work required to make the fabric of this Grade II* listed building sound and useable. From the drains to the chimney tops the project team want to ensure that the whole site is carefully restored and brought back into sustainable use. The work will be completed in phases over a period of two years. Phase 1 which focuses on the stables, gate and lodges and some external work on the house has received Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent. A second phase planning application for work in the main house will be submitted in February.

As a much-loved Barton building with a rich history, we hope that Barton individuals, businesses and organisations will want to contribute to the costs of breathing life back into the house’s walls, windows and rooms.

We have broken down the cost of some elements of the work from £5 for a (properly) repointed lime mortar brick to £6,500 for the renovation and resitting of the wall mounted sundial from the south elevation. Supporters can ‘buy’ as many items as they like for the full cost or a share in the item. All contributions will be acknowledged on the Baysgarth House website and on a screen inside within the levels below:
